Galaxy backbone limited has formed 42,000 email accounts for Federal Civil Servants. Galaxy backbone created these email accounts in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communication Technology on a combined email platform.

Speaking at the launch of the unified email platform, Mrs. Omobola Johnson, minister of Communication Technology, said “The platform will improve the speed and efficiency of official communication and provide the means to share, store and gain access to official documents anytime, anywhere and on any computer or mobile device.”

The launch of the unified email platform, is banked on the “switch to .gov.ng” initiative. This initiative was designed to help the Ministry of Communication Technology adopt a unified email platform for helping the government improve its services through Federal Civil Servants on grade levels 10 – 17.

The unified unique platform has features which enable sending of encrypted email, planning meetings online, allocating and tracking staff and colleagues on duties, and distributing circulars worldwide.
During the launch, it was stated that the platform is already available in certain mobile devices such as blackberry, windows, and android phones. This unique email platform can be accessed through www.fedcs.gov.ng. It was further stated that a unified email platform for federal civil servants on grade levels 09, will be created.

Mrs. Omobola Johnson, further stated that special emails are available for Ministers who are not civil service staff. It was pointed out that there is a standard naming convention for creating accounts i.e. [email protected].

The 42,000 email accounts are expected to aid in the distribution of information and communication technologies, which will play a key role in improving public service delivery as well as facilitating transparency in governance. Moreover, the platform will work as a central information portal, for enabling approved and safe entry to government’s online services.
