We are often not as anonymous as we think we are on the internet because we leave a trail of ourselves behind us. There is no foolproof method to completely go invisible online, but there are a number of simple-to-do things that we can do to protect our online privacy. Here is a list of these DIY things we should always take seriously when online:
- Don’t give away all your personal information on your social media profiles
- Share your personal details like your social security number only when you know and trust someone
- Always secure your computer and mobiles (or other gadgets) with a password
- Make a habit of using private browsing feature present in most modern browsers
- Using a password vault like, Lastpass.com, will keep them safe and help you to generate strong passwords
- Adopting the Two-factor authentication access on sites like Facebook, Google, Apple, Dropbox, etc, can be time-consuming, but a lot more secure
- Use the Google Alert feature to know what others might be saying about you
- Paying in cash will save you from many advertisers that get information about you from credit card companies
- Share your social network activity only with people you know and trust
- Avoid giving your zip code when making payments through the credit card
