Ms. Funke Opeke, MainOne’s Chief Executive Officer, has supported ICT for upgraded cost efficiency in Nigeria, even as the company revealed plans to outspread its subsea cable to Cameroun, in the light of the fall in worldwide crude oil prices, and consequent effects on Nigeria’s economy.

Ms. Opeke advocated ICT enabling Oil and Gas production with Advanced Connectivity Solutions during her presentation at the Lagos Oil Club question and answer session for January 2015.
Speaking on the significance of ICT for Oil and Gas industry, she said that Oil and Gas firms should embrace ICT solutions to uphold viability, since ICT has a strict critical role in enhancing operational efficiency and influencing cost reduction in line with the recent falling oil prices.
She added that worldwide oil prices have accelerated essential fiscal belt-tightening measures.
The MainOne CEO revealed the plans of extending MainOne subsea cable to Cameroun.
Explaining the importance of the extension to Cameroun, she noted that this will significantly improve connectivity services in the South-South region of Nigeria, hence, Oil companies in the locality will be able to interconnect with their home offices easily.
Following the Federal Governments step to review 600 current projects and suggestion to double the VAT (Value Added Tax) from 5% to 10%, Ms. Opeke advised Oil and Gas firms to follow accordingly and power accessible ICT infrastructure in the country.
She also noted the significance of the idea to spread out the MainOne subsea cable, for improved connectivity of digital oil fields to MDX-i.
