The Filecoin Conference organized by the duo of Filecoin and Ethereum Nigeria in collaboration with Orbit Community ended its 3-day hybrid event on April, Saturday 2, 2022, which saw workshops and various knowledge transmission on the latest in decentralized storage, Web3, NFTs and the likes.
Some of the program participants also took part in a hackathon that saw three teams emerge winners of a combined $1725K. Asides from the financial benefits, the winners were promised VIP membership of the Orbit Community and a 3-month free usage of a Co-working space.
Not relenting on their words in fulfilling these promises, the organizers and the winners converged on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at Polystar Building in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos to formally announce and present Workcity, a co-working space to the hackathon winners.

The winners were given a tour around the co-working space to see what they are set to benefit from their 3-month stay ranging from constant electricity, fast internet connection, serenity, technical support and a conducive environment.
The winners were also formally announced as VIP members of the Orbit Community Program and were presented with their cash prizes.
The winners once again are:
First Prize Winners: David Nnacheta, Oluwasomidotun Oladipupo, Ogunsakin Tope, Wuraola Olalekan, Uhiene Eleojo, Tobiloba. They presented DOTWOG, a project that would support data migration from a centralized file-sharing system to a decentralized DOTWOG IPFS platform.
First Runner-up: Olusola Samuel, Toyosi Samuel and Codehouze. They presented DECENTRADOC, a solution with a collaborative decentralized word processing application using IPFS, Solidity, React, Node,js and Web3.0
Second Runner-up: Abimbola Adebayo and David Uzockuwu. They presented MEDCAN, a DAO platform that manages healthcare research on marijuana leveraging NFTs and IPFS.

Speaking on the Filecoin presentation day, Tochukwu Okoro, CEO, Blockverse and one of the speakers/partners of the recently concluded 3-day conference urged that people be ready to get involved in the web3 space, stating that interested individuals mustn’t be necessarily developers or technical persons before they can take the advantage.

Also speaking on the presentation day, Chukwuemeka Enoch Mbaebie, a Devcon V Scholar Alumni and the Ambassador Orbit Community Program Lagos expressed his delight in organizing the memorable event for the Nigerian and African blockchain ecosystem.
Chukwuemeka extended his appreciation to everyone who has contributed to the success of the recently concluded Filecoin conference, especially the team in the United States, Juan Benet, CEO of Protocol Labs, Orbit Community, Colin, Yuliia and every other partner.
He further mentioned that the hackathon wouldn’t be a one-time event as it will continue in other parts of Nigeria.
“This conference has really brought the blockchain community together and see how we could leverage the Filecoin tool in Africa and we believe that in the next couple of months, most communities locally within Africa, when we talk about decentralized storage and IPFS would be at the forefront.”
He also stated that the community’s next meetup will take place in Abuja while also adding that there is a plan by the community to form a study group.
This according to him will bring about more collaboration in Nigeria’s blockchain ecosystem, so that people can learn more about these new technologies for the progress of Africa and mankind at large.
Furthermore, he explained the essence of the co-working space allocated to the winners. According to him, the space is part of the benefits of the program and he urged them to make maximum use of the space for group meetings, ideation, and training.
Chukwuemeka also addressed those who took part in technical writing, stating that a medium has been created for them to select the best content while also promising that those who had the best tweets will also be rewarded.
In conclusion, he added that the Orbit Community is ready to take up the blockchain challenge in all communities and its has already made progress with Lagos.
