Largest social media network, Facebook ventured into a partnership with International Centre for Leadership Development Nigeria (ICLDNG), on free internet safety resources for teenagers, parents, and educators through its newly launched Safety Centre.
According to Akua Gyekye, Facebook Public Policy Manager Africa, the redesigned Safety Centre which is available in over 50 languages walks people through the tools Facebook offers to control their experience on Facebook as well as numerous tips and resources for safe and secure sharing of information.
She explained that Facebook’s mission is to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected. Emphasizing that Facebook wants everyone to feel safe when sharing and engaging with friends, family and loved ones on Facebook.”
“To help achieve this, we are working with external experts and gather feedback from our community and partners like the ICLDNG to develop and improve our policies, tools, and resources to keep people safe on Facebook.”
She said that the device works well on mobile devices and includes step-by-step videos on a variety of useful safety topics. “ Addition to Facebook’s Safety Centre is the Bullying Prevention Hub, a resource for teens, parents and educators seeking guidance on how to prevent and address bullying.
Developed by the Yale Centre for Emotional Intelligence in 2013, Facebook now works with 50 partners around the world to make the Bullying Prevention Hub more widely available.”
According to Felix Iziomoh, Executive Director of ICLDNG said, “We’re pleased to partner with Facebook to help educate people about how they can stay safe online.
