Of the impressive devices that were featured in the 2015 CES press conference, the bendable G Flex 2 is poised to make an honorable footprint in the history of smartphones. Though, critics say that this unique phone may not sell well, it has received remarkable positive reviews from early adopters and the press. Pre-orders for the phone has been slated to commence on February 27, 2015 and it is expected to be officially launched on March 14, 2015. We are sure that most high-end phone enthusiasts in Nigeria are eagerly looking forward to its arrival.

The design

LG-G-D958-SL-2Though it is built around the basic principles of its predecessor, the G Flex, G Flex 2 comes with enhanced features that make it more attractive and sportier. Its premium aesthetic build is attractive and the 230 arc is quite eye catching.

The phone is 3 inches wide, and has a height of 5.9 inches and 0.3 to 0.4 inches in thickness. It weighs only 152 grams which is light for a phone of its size.

The developers created a phone that, though not rugged, can still withstand substantial levels of abuse. For instance, when you step or press on it, it will flex straight. A slick protective coat has also been added on the back. Described as self-healing, this coat will mend everyday scratches and scuffs.

The 5.5inch display is 1080p Full HD OLED with a 403ppi pixel density. It is covered with Gorilla Glass for durability.

Software

G Flex 2 runs on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop and has all the expected features, e.g., notifications on the lock screen and better experience with recent apps. It also has LG’s user interface layers on top. The KnockOn and KnockCode gestures are still available in addition to a GlanceView that allows the user to view time, date, and notifications without waking the phone.

This phone comes in two varieties with either 16 or 32GB of onboard storage and either 2 or 3 GB RAM. The external storage is expandable via microSD up to 2TB!

G Flex 2 is one of the few devices that have the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 quad-core processor. The architecture is a 64-bit octa-core with 2GHz speed. Games and graphics are, thus, well covered on the G Flex 2.

Camera

The primary camera is 13-MP that can record videos at full HD. It features laser auto-focus, optical image stabilization, and dual flashes. For all your selfie needs, the phone has a 2MP front facing camera that has motion sensors.

The battery

It is powered by a 3000mAh battery, which is similar to those of the G3, although it is not removable.

Verdict

We applaud the G Flex 2 for its powerful chip, the Snapdragon 810, the Android 5.0 as well as an improved camera and size. We still wonder what value a curved design adds to the phone.
