Apple has unveiled new impressive gadgets. The iPhone 6 together with the new iPhone 6 Plus have been described as undoubtedly the best iPhones ever produced. Also, unveiled was the Apple Watch, a smartwatch designed by Apple. A new mobile payment platform, Apple Pay was also unveiled on Tuesday.

Apple CEO, Tim Cook, labeled the launch as the biggest advancement in iPhone’s history while speaking at Cupertino California.

The iPhones

Display: Bigger screens with curved edges.

The iPhone 6 measures 4.7 inches, the iPhone 6 Plus is 5.5 inches; this is 4 inches more than iPhone 5s.

A phenomenal feature is the Retina HD display on the larger iPhones. The iPhone 6’s display has over a million pixels. The iPhone 6 Plus has double that with 2 million pixels.

The on-off switch has been moved to the iPhone’s right edge for better handling of the handset. Double-tapping the home button slides down the entire screen giving the user access to items on the screen top.

With the bigger display, come bigger batteries for the new iPhones. This translates into 11 hours of continuous video watching on iPhone 6 while for iPhone 6 Plus it is 14 hours.

Speed: Faster and more Precise

The new iPhone devices run on a fresh A8 processor. This gives them 25% more speed than the iPhone 5s. this is coupled to an M8 co-processor allowing fitness apps on the handsets to be so precise that they can tell if one is walking or biking and even tell a person’s relative elevation.

Camera: Impressive

The handsets have an 8MP camera equipped with a new sensor for enhanced focus.

Software: iOS 8

The iOS 8 is the new upgraded software from the iOS 7. Among its additions is a HealthKit app for monitoring heart rate, blood pressure, weight and sleep among other things related to the health of the user. Also, in the new iOS 8, is a HomeKit that allows the user to control other home devices using their iPhone or iPad.

This operating system will be available to owners of iPhone 4s, 5, 5C and 5S as from September 17th

Availability

People in the US and eight other nations will be receiving the new iPhones starting from September 19th Pre-orders for the same will commence starting this Friday.

At $199, one will get the 16GB iPhone 6 while its 64GB version will come at $299 and the 128GB iPhone 6 will be sold for $399. The new iPhone 6 Plus will begin retailing at $299.

The iPhone 5C and 5S will be discounted by $100, though the iPhone 5s will not be receiving the plastic treatment of the iPhone 5C, it will retain its aluminum casing.

Apple Watch

This smartwatch is the premier wearable watch designed by Apple. It syncs with the new iPhones to show notifications. Its features include a magnetic charger, apps for fitness and health, and a crown to control zoom and scrolling using twist. It will, of course, tell time too.

3 versions of the spectacular Apple Watch will be released; a sports model, the 18 carat gold Apple Watch Edition and another model. Two sizes of the Apple Watch will be produced; one smaller than the other.

Apple Pay

This is a new mobile payment platform that comes with the new iPhones. Principally, it will use a Near Fields Communications technology (NFC) to cooperate with payment termini. This, it will accomplish in a single tap. Major credit card corporations such as MasterCard, Visa and the American Express have been brought into partnership with Apple to allow iPhone users pay by simply swiping on their devices.

About the security of the ApplePay, Apple stated that the app will not on any occasion store your card information neither is the number sent to the merchant. It will also be coupled to iPhone’s TouchID sensor for enhanced security.

Convenience of using ApplePay result from it already having your card information and address linked to the iPhone account. Buying is, therefore, as easy as touching the TouchID sensor and then waiting for the items to be shipped to you.

Cook said that ApplePay is aimed at replacing the wallet.
