No one actually saw this coming and although snippets of leaks, stating that Apple might launch the iOS 14 this week, during the Worldwide Developers Conference was trending, the exact release date was muted.

The most significant thing is that, for the first time, the event held online, due to the ravaging coronavirus pandemic.

The new iOS 14, will be the perfect platform that will usher in the iPhone 12, which is coming very soon.

The iOS 14 comes with new features that are quite comprehensive, it is easy to quickly learn how to operate it.

The addition of iOS 14 will change the home screen, by adding the App Library; Smart Stack widget that will, automatically update.

Based on the time of the day, your preference, or your frequent activities and picture-in-picture feature, will allow users keep watching videos, while they use other apps, seamlessly.

The most interesting thing is that, Siri now comes in a new design and with more capabilities that include real-time on-device translation, streamlined Messages experience, etc.

Siri can now launch an app from the home screen, which is a major upgrade from the way it was working before.

Translation will, also, get upgraded and by just putting your phone in landscape mode, a split screen is created, with the conversation displayed in different languages on either side of the screen.

For now, translate will only support 11 languages: English, Mandarin Chinese, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Portuguese and Russian.

Another thing that will change is the message box. The new Message list screen, provides a space at the top center, for you to pin contacts of the people you interact with, the most.

The group conversation now works like the Slack app, when it comes to responding to specific replies and also, new Memoji customisation options, including a mask for your Memoji, which is now available for users to explore and use.

Other significant improvements that come with the iOS 14 includes;

iPadOS 14 Improved handwriting support, Spatial Audio, (AirPods software updates), watchOS 7, Privacy improvements, Home app improvements, Better multi-user support on tvOS 14, macOS 11 – Big Sur.
