In a bid to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, many countries have adopted a number of measures that have, in turn changed the way we do a lot of things, especially, enabling us to leverage more, on technology, to carry out many of our activities now, more than ever before.
I, recently, had a chat, with Obi Anusiem, CEO, NGEX, on Tech Trends show, on Channels Television and he highlighted how we have fared in leveraging technology at this trying times, what we can do to improve on the enabling environment, the need for data at all times, how we can take more advantage of technology for our use, going forward and lots more.
CFA: Obi, we are happy to have you on Tech Trends today.
Obi: Thank you for having me.
CFA: Tell me. What is your opinion about technology, in a COVID era.?
Obi: I think, number one, technology now rises to the surface. Everybody becomes more technologically aware. If you keep a distance, technology helps you shorten that distance, either through communication, especially, through communication and effective as you see people ordering food, using technology.
Tele-medicine is in vogue now. WhatsApp, Zoom, Facebook Messenger, Google Meet. All those are now popping up and becoming, much more becoming top of mind, to so many people.
CFA: Where does that leave countries that were not prepared for the reality of today?
Obi: Well, the countries have to do a lot more catching up. You now have to run, twice as, fast and be creative. Maybe, you don’t run in a straight line, to chase everybody that has been running, for ten minutes ahead of you. Maybe you run across the field. If we use Nigeria, as an example, you can see the short-coming, where being able to continue children’s education, using technology, has become very challenging.
I would think, we got to step backwards and first look at what exists that is efficient, then, you can ride on and at least, get to the most people, while you try to build out some of the technology infrastructure, that should actually, be in place, right now.
