193 New COVID-19 Cases Recorded As Minister of Health Notes Poor Hospital Attendance For Other Ailments

One Hundred And Ninety-Three, (193), new COVID-19 cases, were recorded in Nigeria, on Thursday, May 14, 2020, as stated in an update from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.

With this, now brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in Nigeria to Five Thousand, One Hundred And Sixty-Two, (5,162), while One Thousand, One Hundred And Eighty, (1,180), cases have been discharged, with One Hundred And Forty-Three, (167), deaths recorded.

The number of active cases in Nigeria, as at the time of the update, yesterday, is Three Thousand Eight Hundred And Fifteen, (3,815), cases. Nigeria has, also, carried out Thirty Thousand, Six Hundred And Fifty-Seven, (30,657) tests.

The new cases recorded, shows that, Lagos State recorded Fifty-Eight, (58), new cases, while Kano State recorded Forty-Six, (46), new cases, with Jigawa State recording Thirty-Five (35), new cases.

Yobe State recorded Twelve, (12), new cases, while the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, recorded Nine, (9), new cases, with Ogun State recording Seven, (7), new cases.

Gombe and Plateau States recorded Five, (5), new cases each, while Imo State recorded Four, (4), new cases, with Borno, Edo and Kwara States recording Three, (3), new cases each. Bauchi, Nasarawa and Ondo States recorded One, (1), new case each.

The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, stated at the PTF on COVID-19 briefing that, outpatient visits to hospitals, for the cure of other ailments nationwide, has reduced.

This might not be unconnected with the fear of many that, they will be forced to take the COVID-19 test and bundled to the isolation centres.

He, also, stated that, immunisation services, rendered, in various hospitals across the country, has also, reduced by half.

The Minister of Health, however, expressed optimism that, the gradual easing of the lockdown in the country, would enable more patients to visit the various hospitals across the country.
