No doubt that, in the near future, humans would be more dependent, on technology, than what we have today, hence, we must prepare, adequately, for it, so, we do not get left out of the fray.
I recently had Sam Immanuel, CEO, Semicolon, on Tech Trends on Channels Television and he shared his views, on technology in Nigeria and much more.
CFA: Sam, glad to have you on the show today.
Sam: Thanks for having me.
CFA: How well, will you rate Nigerian Developers?
Sam: I think Nigerian Developers are, very energetic, very enthusiastic, very enterprising, because, you look at things that are being done, in the ecosystem and put it vis-à-vis the training that is available, you realize that, people have applied themselves, to get to where they are, but they are still, quite a number of areas, where we still need to do a lot more, in terms of development, around system design, application design, enterprise architecture, even, if you start looking things around discipline of how you deliver enterprise projects, there is still, some gaps that, we need to address.
CFA: In the larger scheme of things, it seems that a number of corporates and even, governments, prefer foreign developers. What’s your take on that?
Sam: That’s certainly, the case because, for a lot of the large projects, there is still, a sense of believe that, many of our developers, like to work, at times, maybe, alone, at times, maybe, not in, as large teams, as may be required. I guess, there is still the history, where we used to ship a lot of technical work, out of the country, without the new realization that, now, a lot of those skills, are becoming available, in-country.
CFA: A lot of countries are now teaching their young ones, programming, at a very early age. Would you recommend same, for Nigeria?
Sam: Absolutely. I think it’s a good investment in the future of the kids, in the future of the country and most importantly, the educational system and even, the working environment that, we expect them to end up in, because, as we continue to talk about the future world of work and we are looking at all of the considerations around, what would that future world of work look like, we expect, a lot more automation, a lot more technology, so, the earlier we can start the kids, getting involved in technology, getting skills in technology, getting interested in technology is, certainly, a good thing.
