With the major aim of ensuring deep penetration of technology across the country, the National Information Technology Development Agency, (NITDA) has provided over 20 higher institutions of learning across the country with virtual libraries.
This was revealed by the agency during a courtesy visit of the Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) Professor Mohammed Ladan Tawfiq to its Abuja headquarters.
“The focus of NITDA is not only to regulate and develop ICT for MDAs, departments, ministries, etc., but also to create an encompassing environment that supports research and learning institutions through the provision of infrastructures backed with technology” said the Director-General of NITDA, Mr. Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi who was represented by the Director, Information Technology Infrastructure Solutions (ITIS), Dr. Usman Gambo Abdullahi.
“Your institute has so far met all requirements for the agency’s support and intervention and adding that with all round the clock power supply for higher institutions of learning, the agency has provided over 100 PCs to bolster learning and research in several academic centres,” he stressed.
“In 2019, the agency has made available virtual libraries to over 20 institutions across the country and with the support of the DG the NITDA is on course to provide an IT Training Centre for NIALS to accommodate more IT knowledge-based students.” Stressed the Director-General.
Professor Tawfiq laud this effort and noted that the institute has already begun offering online course training to Judges and Lawyers in a conducive learning facility and all it needs is NITDA’s intervention, technical guidance and collaboration.
Also speaking at the event is the Director eGovernment Development and Regulation Department Dr Vincent Olatunji who congratulated the NIALS chairman for taking the step of cooperating with the NITDA.
He advised that an ICT department need to be set up by NIALS in collaboration with the NITDA to foster effective cybersecurity.
At the end of the event, the two organisations agreed to initiate a working committee to further synchronize and build an inter-agency relationship which will be inked in an MoU very soon.
