The predominance of technology today is bringing forth convenience, making humans more productive than others who lived decades ago. Some of the gadgets are gradually becoming obsolete. The convenience and ease of use has so far increased the popularity and usage of the smartphones in recent times. Notable among them are;

  1. Wrist watches: Most persons seem to have forgotten its existence as phones now come in handier. They have become ostentatious mostly purchased for the wealthy to show off their riches as against its primary purpose of telling the time.
  2. Television: Now the question, who watches TV these days? With the advent of Youtube and mobile TV on the go, one doesn’t have to wait to get home to sit in front of the TV. The televisions are gradually going out of fashion, though still being purchased mostly for the decoration of the home and occasional enjoyments.
  3. Print Books: As the famous saying, if you want to hide something from an African, put it in a book. Nigerians do not read as much as they should, most complain of the bulky nature of these books which to them is a major turn off. But with the E-books which make reading much more exciting and colourful, more persons are embracing the reading culture.
  4. Radio: Simply connect your earplug, and you are ready to go. Who wouldn’t prefer the ease and convenience of doing that as against carrying a big radio about as the Mallams do?
  5. Cameras: Except for professional pictures, most persons would rather take a photograph with their phones.
  6. Dictionaries: Imagine having to carry that big and weighty book around or waiting to get home before checking the meaning of “onomatopoeia”, when you could just tap the dictionary app on your phone and get the meaning.
  7. Bible: The truth is only a few faithful’s still carrying their Bibles to church. As most persons would say “my bible is in my phone.”
