Going by the maxim that “all work and no play, makes one a dull being”, today, we shall be reviewing a gaming console known as PS4.

It is easy for anyone to like PS4. It is easily one of the best, most powerful consoles on the planet. This review will let you into having more knowledge about PS4.

Introduction

Unlike its predecessors, PS4 is developer-friendly and built on a framework of easy sharing, connecting and streaming. The architecture is PC-like and unlike PS3 it is a gaming console rather than a campaign for 3D TVs and Blu-ray.

The Design

Since its production, Sony has maintained a rather steady design. No modifications have been made to the initial design but then, there is nothing much to complain about this rock-solid design.

sony ps4The hardware is slim and sleek.  It is jet-black and measures 275mm by 53mm by 305mm almost similar to second generation PS3. The weight is manageable (6.1lbs), and the power supply is well tucked inside the system. The shape is familiar yet unique and reminiscent of PS2 in form and function.

The front has a Blu-ray disc drive flanked to the right by two USB 3.0 ports for charging the DualShock 4 controllers. At the back are ports for HDMI, Digital optical audio out and Ethernet. There is also an auxiliary connection that connects the PlayStation Camera.

Specifications

PS4 means business; it comes with a custom single-chip processor. It couples an x86-64 eight-core AMD “Jaguar” GPU to a 1.84 teraflop GPU that is constructed around AMD’s Radeon tech. it has 8GB GDDR5 RAM backed by a 500GB hard drive. The drive, however, can be replaced with SSD or a larger drive.

PS4 has Bluetooth 2.0 to connect the DualShock 4 as well as wireless 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi.

Features

One can’t help but marvel at the industry of Sony’s team of internal developers. The team makes it possible to have updates rolled out every month. The updates improve the feature set and interface of PS4.

Recent updates include a system firmware 2.0 Masamune that includes rental streaming PlayStation Now, Share Factory, Remote Play and Share Play. Minor updates have made it possible to play while downloading, upload to YouTube, turn off HDCP, and change themes and background images.

Sony’s Dynamic menu allows users to receive Movies, Games and TV shows as well as connect with online gamers and friends. It can additionally connect to Facebook and Twitter and stream to Twitch.

Accessories

When you buy a brand new Sony PS4, you get an HDMI cable, power cord, earbud microphone combo, a DualShock 4 controller and its charging cable.

Setting Up

Setting up PS4 is not any different from setting up PS3. Once connected and booted up, you will be requested to connect to the internet via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. A 300MB patch is then downloaded after which you can make purchases in the store and play online games. Be certain to get the newest firmware from Sony. It is also possible to skip connecting to the internet entirely and play offline.

PS Vita

Nothing earth shuddering changed with the PS Vita from previous consoles. Nonetheless, one can now log in 4 PS Vitas into a single PS4 system. The functionality, however, still remains unchanged.

It suffices to say that acquiring PS4 comes with no regrets. It is a great and fulfilling entertainment hub that will arouse the interest of the most avid gamer in Nigeria.
