2015 can simply be described as the beginning of the death of personal computers as we know them because Mac and all other PC brands experienced challenges with sales and they mostly reported losses.

Internet connection through mobile phones has now given many more Africans the opportunity to access lots of information that are relevant to their individual and business advancement as well as join social media platforms, like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. This helps them to keep abreast of goings on and contribute meaningfully to discussions, both in their immediate society as well as overseas.

It has also given Africans more awareness and consciousness of their immediate and remote environment. Care should, however, be taken in monitoring the use of mobile phones by students on the continent so they do not use these at the expense of their studies.

With the use of mobile telephony, Africa is now able to facilitate its population with better infrastructure and communication services to interact within and outside the continent. The improved market position and job opportunities created from that have supported the economic growth being witnessed in some parts of the continent at present.

With mobile telephones these days, it has become very easy to make contacts and speak with your family and friends as well as business contacts. Everyone is now just a phone call away! Aside from the simple banking activities that are carried out on the mobile phones (such as checking of bank balances), you can now make payments for utilities, such as electricity and water bills.

It is also possible for you to now open a bank account with your mobile phone in many of the banks. It is now possible for you to make payments for purchased items. With your mobile phone you can conduct other banking transactions such as transferring funds from your bank account to another person or organisation’s bank account without physically making a trip to the bank.

These transfers are not limited to transactions between accounts within one bank, but are also possible on transactions from bank accounts in one bank, to bank accounts in another bank. This has drastically reduced constant trips to banks and is a step in the right direction towards achieving a cashless society.

Quite a number of business deals are also initiated, discussed upon and sealed over the mobile phones today. Many business contacts doing business have never met in person, but goods and services are being exchanged between them with payments transferred to the beneficiaries via the mobile phones.
