The question is often asked whether it is possible to completely prevent a website from being hacked or not. The honest answer that I can give to that is that no website is completely immune from getting hacked, honestly, except you are a big business with some critical infrastructure, I do not really think you should lose sleep if your website gets hacked.
What the big deal is will be not planning for the unexpected, because as long as you are on the Internet, it just might happen. My advice, therefore, is that you do the following in readiness of being hacked;
- Keep a full and partial backup up of your entire site, both in the cloud and on a physical storage.
- Keep all your software and hosting facilities up to date.
- Be security conscious and sign up for a round the clock website monitoring and hardening service and there are a number of them out there. Their job will be to notify you whenever there is any kind of breach on your website.
Remember, all that an intruder needs to gain access to your website is to find a vulnerable clue and if they look closely, there is always one to exploit. Like the Boy Scout would say, “Be Prepared”
