The world of technology and what it can do to improve our lives and activities is limitless and what is more, there are no strait jacket tech solutions to any particular problem.

Recently at a tech gathering I attended in Lagos, an entrepreneur quite interested in taking advantage of technology to market his business requested to know if it was worthwhile for him to apply mobile marketing in his quest to take advantage of technology in enhancing his marketing potential.

If, indeed, this is possible; what would be the best advice on how this could be applied effectively?

Mobile marketing is marketing through mobile devices such as cell phones or smartphones and it is capable of providing your clients or customers with time and location sensitive personalised information that promotes your goods, services and brand.

This may come in form of Small Message Services which are messages that can be read within a very few minutes and make sound meaning to the receiver of such message without being offensive, strong enough to convert him; Multimedia Message Services which are usually timed slideshow of images, texts, audio and video. Others include push notifications, QR Codes, Location-based services, App-based marketing, Mobile Web Marketing, etc.

For the avoidance of doubt, mobile marketing focuses on much more than simple text messaging on your mobile device. With credit due exclusively to smartphones today, mobile marketing proudly boasts a far wider reach across apps on a vast range of channels for mobile phones, email options, mobile search, services that are location-based, and much more.
