Facebook is bringing advertising competition to Google by extending its ad technology beyond Facebook platform and Facebook apps. This is set to come to life with the launching of Atlas that was bought from Microsoft in 2013.
Through Atlas, partners of Facebook will have the ability to send ads to Facebook users all over the web.
This will allow advertisers to reach specific target groups by relying on the info that Facebook has on such users such as age and location.
Should this project be successful Facebook will be better-placed to rival the king of internet advertising, Google.
Atlas is set to work with Instagram in its advertising strategies. Since Atlas will be integrated to mobile
devices, advertisers will easily follow their consumers around the web.
Atlas is mostly focused on virtual goods and video games. The user will be allowed to control the ads he, or she would like to see.
Atlas and Facebook will utilize mobile identifiers and other information including cookies to target ads.
The privacy of the user will, however, be protected, and Facebook promises that it will not reveal the identity of the users to advertisers.
All in all, Atlas is set to merge mobile and desktop advertising and, thus, boost Facebook advertising.
