AWIEF Announces Pitch n Grow 2026

Today, Flutterwave, Africa’s leading payments technology company, has announced a new and most welcome partnership with global payment leader PayPal.

With this collaboration, African merchants will be able to receive payment from Paypal users across the globe through Flutterwave’s platform.

Prior to this auspicious development, Africans, particularly Nigerians, were largely shut out from actively participating in international commerce.

What this means is that while Africans could shop on Amazon and Alibaba, and subscribe to Netflix and the like, they were still restricted in a way when it comes to receiving payment from the sale of their goods and services.

This disheartening situation is traceable to Africa’s highly fragmented and complex payment and banking infrastructure.

In Nigeria, stories of failed transactions abound; however, by teaming up with PayPal, Flutterwave has leveled the playing field for African SMEs, and freelancers to fully engage in cross-border ecommerce.

Not only are there fewer barriers to face both African consumers and businesses can connect to over 377 million PayPal account holders globally.

Commenting on the announcement, Olugbenga ‘GB’ Agboola, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Flutterwave, said:

“We are excited to bring PayPal’s fully integrated services to businesses across Africa. The collaboration reinforces our vision of creating a seamless digital payments system for Africa’s business communities that can now transact with international consumers.

“By working with PayPal, we can further strengthen our commitment to our customers and service users as we will be enabling them to transact and expand their business operations to reach new markets.

PayPal’s global reach is unrivaled and collaborating with them allows our customers to explore new markets where PayPal is embedded.

“Through our collaboration with PayPal, we are also bringing together two trusted global payment brands to provide millions of consumers and businesses a gateway to new opportunities,” he said.

Flutterwave has indeed revolutionized the payments space in Africa through its fast, flexible, and affordable payment services to individuals and businesses in Africa.

Let’s highlight a few of the game-changing effects of Flutterwave- PayPal collaboration on the African businesses.

  • Increased access to sell to global customers using PayPal’s secure platform to receive and make payments online.
  • Opportunity to expand business operations of SMEs and multinationals alike to reach new markets.
  • Renewed interest in freelancing gigs for independent contractors.
  • Contributes to the significant growth of Africa’s digital economy.
How does it work?

Well, if you want to access PayPal’s 377 million+ customers, here are the steps to take.

  • As a business, make sure you’re registered on Flutterwave, if not, click here to do so.
  • Next, go into your dashboard, and follow these instructions on how to enable a payment method. Select PayPal from the list.
  • After that, PayPal will then be displayed as an option on your checkout and your customers can checkout using that option.
How does a PayPal user pay a Flutterwave merchant?

For a PayPal user, consider the following:

  • Go to the Flutterwave merchant’s checkout page, look out for the “Pay with PayPal” option.
  • Next, you click the “Pay with PayPal” button and follow the prompt as it redirects you to your PayPal account to complete your payment.
  • Once payment is done, you’re automatically redirected to the merchant’s checkout page as payment is confirmed on the modal.

Flutterwave merchants in Kenya, South Africa, Egypt, Morocco, Mauritius, Malawi, Mozambique & Senegal are able to easily accept payments from PayPal users worldwide.
