Nuru a Congolese-based startup has raised USD $ 1.2Million in investment from Proparco a French-based investor.

The energy startup says that the secured investment would be utilized in improving access to clean and affordable electricity in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s eastern region.

Formerly known as Kivu Green Energy, the Congolese-based energy startup was founded in 2015 and it specializes in providing affordable and dependable energy to businesses, private and households in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Nuru which in the Swahili language means “light” creates and operates urban solar hybrid mini-grids in the eastern part of the central African country.

The startup’s vision is to offer world-class connectivity to 5 million clients by September 24, 2024, as it is dedicated to strengthening connectivity in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In 2017, Nuru deployed the country’s pioneer solar-based mini-grid and is presently constructing a 1.3MW solar hybrid site in Goma which is Sub-Saharan Africa’s biggest off-grid mini-grid.
