Cameroonian based startup Taaply aims to digitize business cards in order to reduce the rate of carbon emissions on the African continent.
The startup was initially incorporated in Arizona, United States (US) in 2019 by Lekel Asonganyi. Taaply has now relocated to the Central African country in August 2020.
Bootstrapped by families and friends, the startup created plastic cards that can house every personal and business information of a user in one place.
According to the founder, the plastic card can get updated multiple times as required by the user, thus discarding the need for carrying paper business cards around.
With the Taaply app available on iOS and Android, users can simply download and get their digital business cards updated.
The startup has already onboarded more than 400 paying customers and aims to expand into new markets in 2021.
Speaking on why the startup is digitizing business cards to cut down carbon emission, Lekel Asonganyi, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Taaply commented:
“Africa has a high rate of carbon emissions, with few methods on reducing its carbon footprint.
With everything going digital, I believe Africa will benefit tremendously from digitizing business cards, thus reducing their carbon footprint and helping the environment,”
The startup is currently rounding up distributor contracts and franchise agreements so as to expand into Nigeria, Togo, Chad, Kenya, Canada and Belgium.
