Creativity forms and starts from the mind, making it both a foundational and complex skill to tackle.
Every great invention ever done was first formed as an idea in the mind (eg computer, airplane, etc).
The seven wonders of the world (eg the Great Wall of China, Christ the Redeemer, etc) began with a thought.
Creativity is largely used in every sector of the world today, music, art, and in the tech world.
Creativity begins with imagination. World-selling books like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings are popular because of their highly fictitious and imaginative concepts.
Contemporary inventions like Facebook and Remitta were first conveyed as an idea or imagination before laying it out as a plan.
According to a great Physicists, Albert Einstein, regarding the potency of imagination, he said that:
“Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.”
Creativity in the classroom
Creativity is vital in the classroom. It helps expand the brain, therefore aiding cognitive learning (senses, experience, and thoughts) and general learning experiences in the classroom.
Children are known for how inquisitive they are about everything, they are eager to feed their minds at this early age asking questions ranging from intellectual to dull.
Encouragement is essential for such a trait. Many prominent people today tell tales of their curious background and how it sparked their creativity, making them who they are today.
Teachers should yield to this skill in bringing out and developing the best in children at an early age, so they do not retard or destroy their capability to think or their ability to solve problems.
Things teachers can do to promote creativity:
Set up learning activities to explore creativity
For example board games like chess, scrabble, ludo can highly help children in educational knowledge, cognitive thinking.
Chess helps with strategy, scrabble helps with confidence in words and vocabularies, ludo helps in calculating.
Simple sciences like experimenting if only water freezes or planting a seed and watching its growth.
With this process, children can understand better about other liquid things that freeze, or not asides from water or how plants are grown with a visual representation, that just telling them the process verbally, which retards imagination and creativity.
Encouraging children’s artistic minds is also of high priority. Enabling them to make drawings and further color each drawing, pushes up their aesthetic minds.
Giving opportunities to tell jokes, stories, riddles, and even dance or do drama, enhances their minds to see learning from a different view than the formal way of sitting down and writing. This exercise jogs up their mind to bring more ideas.
Value Creativity, acknowledge and reward it
Acknowledge and reward all creative efforts from the children. A small rebuke from an adult can make children not want to try harnessing their creative side again.
That’s why teachers have to be careful of the manner of the approach used in correcting and every attempt at creativity valued, acknowledged, and rewarded.
Creativity at home
Home is the primary place of learning for children, it is important for parents to encourage such skills.
For example, children have a curious habit of disintegrating objects, especially tv remotes, and seeing if they can fix them back. This is rising creativity and adequate care is important in this context.
Even though a reprimand would occur to hinder the child from such destructive action yet such must occur with care, to prevent a decline in creativity and an alternative given for keeping up and expansion of such creativity.
Parents should not shut children up when they decide to share their imaginations with them.
Parents should listen, so they can be able to direct their paths through positivity and away from negativity. For example, children with an imagination of art can go to art schools to build up this skill.
Finally, teaching children how to think is vitally important than what to think. No child is dull and no child is born with the same talents.
Different children work with diverse ways of learning but the majority works with practicality to aid their creativity and the encouragement given to them is extremely important.
