3D, up to this moment, has been a reserve only for the cinemas and sci-fi movies. Well, rumors have it that this will soon be a thing of the past in no distant future. This is because Google has reportedly been working on a tablet that will be equipped with 3d capabilities.

3D_tabletEarly this year, around February to be precise, Google launched the Project Tango Smartphone. The concept itself was a moonshot; the phone, however, drew some impressive feedback. Featuring 3D computing capacity similar to Kinect, the phone was put into practice by Slash gear sometime around March 2014.

Wall Street Journal, however, reports that, Google might now be working on a revolutionary tablet version. Sources within Google’s plan disclosed to the journal that about four thousand prototypes were being developed to be sent to developers within the coming months.

The details of this phenomenal device, however, are minimal. It is speculated that among the tablet’s features is a 7-inch screen. It is alleged that the tablet will have infrared depth sensors. These, coupled with two rear cameras will enable the tablet to capture three-dimensional images.

Besides Google, Amazon has also been rumored to be working towards creating a 3D smartphone.

This is a totally cool idea, and we can’t wait to see how these devices will look like. There are, however, numerous concerns on whether or not the average consumer will be persuaded to buy these devices. It is also highly likely that these devices will come at exceedingly high prices that most consumers may not be able to afford. Google, through its developers are working on applications that will meet the needs of users of Google and its devices.

The success of the project will partly also depend on developers. It is the developers that will translate this technology into real-world applications.

For now, the world eagerly waits to see the next breakthrough in tablet development.
