The advent of technology has no doubt, ensured that man relates to his environment, in a simpler way.
The relationship, between man and machine, has, not only helped create a smooth, coordinated and automated life but also influenced the way organisations to locate and pin-point talents, create and deliver products and services, create efficient teams and a supportive and inclusive professional development.
We are, in an era, where old technologies, are being, gradually, phased out and taking their places, are disruptive technologies, which ensures that activities can, easily, be performed, with, or, without human interference.
Some prominent tech enthusiasts have propounded that, in the nearest future, machines will take over, almost all jobs and relegate humans, to the background, creating a world-wide socio-economic problem of unemployment.
While, to some extent, there is a high probability of this happening, there is also a high probability that, if a synergy, is created between humans and machines, to achieve an optimal outcome, this problem, will never be up for discussion.
In 1997, the then Chess World Champion Master Gary Kasparov, was beaten by a computer, but as of today, the world’s best Chess Master, is not a computer, but the combination of a human and computer.
This is a testament, to the fact that the relationship between man and machine, can only enhance massive growth.
If this same principle is harnessed, patterned and applied, in organizations and to a large extent, the society, the world will, surely, be a great place to live in.
According to MIT researcher Julia Shah, “that teams made up of humans and robots, collaborating efficiently, can be more productive, than teams made up of, either, humans, or, robots alone…this cooperative process, reduced human idle time, by 85%.”
Over the years, humans and machine relationships, has become deeper and by 2030, tech enthusiasts have postulated that this relationship, will become richer, than ever before.
Humans will surpass their limitations and innovative records will be created, as new possibilities open up.
To understand how humans and machines can relate better, one can look at it, from the angle of analytics and synthesis.
Analytical reasoning is, what computers do best, as it involves scrutinising a situation, in order to break it down and solve the associated sub-problems, while synthesis reasoning is, what humans do, through combining two, or, more things, in a specific way, to create something that is new and different.
To exemplify this better, Prof. Joel Mokyr, of Northwestern University puts it this way; “it is the humans, who ask the questions. It is very hard, to teach machines, to tell them what interesting questions, do we need an answer to… once we pose the question, they can help us answer it”.
Machine learning, advanced analytics, AI, etc., are all information technologies that require a large amount of raw data, to function optimally.
If data is not funneled into them, their evolution will remain stagnant and that is why a human is an essential cog, in the upgrading of the AI systems, machine learning and advanced analytics.
The ironclad relationship, between man and machine, is, definitely, the future.
