According to Africa: The Big Deal report, 93 percent of Africa’s funding went to startups headed by male CEOs in 2021.
Based on the structure of founding teams in 2021, a single-man founder or a founding team with at least one male co-founder secured almost 99 percent of the investment.
VC4A has launched a call for women-led startups from throughout Africa, based on this understanding and as a community member committed to helping the startup ecosystem.
Apply if you are the CEO of a fast-growing startup with a demonstrable impact possibility that is in the process of expanding its operations in the region.
Startups participating in the program gain access to a curated investor network and are evaluated by top venture capital firms as part of the review process.
Angel investors, VC fund managers, and corporates who engage in the program provide mentorship and technical support to the finalists.
The Venture Showcase is a powerful tool for promoting your fundraising campaign and connecting with potential investors.
Also, this is an excellent chance to share and learn from your peers while also forming long-term bonds with them.

Criteria for eligibility
- You have a strong management team of at least three people, one (or more) of whom is a woman founder;
- Your firm is a for-profit business that is registered as a separate legal entity.
- You have a marketable product or service that generates revenue;
- Your product or service is clearly unique, and/or your business strategy is novel, disruptive, and scalable;
- Your organization is based in one or more African nations;
- At least one of the founding members is of African descent.
- You’re looking for a $250K to $10M Seed or Series A investment.
While there are exceptions, it’s likely that your startup has previously obtained external funding, either in the form of debt or stock or in the form of donations from charitable groups.
