It is no longer news that Nigerians by nature are entrepreneurial, but being able to compete with other entrepreneurs locally or internationally gives you invaluable insights and exposes you to new ideas. Moreover, 2016 has been a good year for most startups and entrepreneurs because some firms around the globe have been fully involved in bringing out the best out from entrepreneurs in Nigeria. The storylines of Tracology and co changed when they announced winners in Abuja a few weeks ago. However, if you missed that, another bigger opportunity has come for you to showcase your ideas and possibly be a million Dollars richer.
This time, Chivas Regal, the world’s first luxury whiskey maker for the second time in a row in partnership with Enterprise Development Centre (E.D.C) is offering entrepreneurs, startups, enterprises with social impact ideas the opportunity to win a share of $1 million in financial investment through “The Venture” initiative.
With about 95% of young professionals looking for businesses to take more responsibility for solving a global problem, it’s seem glaring that some entrepreneurs and startups in Nigeria with excellent ideas that could make a social impact and solve global challenges wouldn’t allow such incredible opportunity to slip off hands.
Meanwhile, out of the application entries that is expected, 15 applicants would be selected, and subsequently, the winner who will take part in an Accelerator Week program and represent Nigeria at “The Venture” final event in the USA, July 2017, where 32 winners across six continents will be competing for the price.

“The Venture” initiative provides social entrepreneurs with the opportunity to compete for a share of $1 million in financial investment, valuable contacts and global exposure of their company as well as mentorship from world-famous business leaders, Ninja Okekearu, Deputy Director; EDC told journalist in a press conference.
She said “in partnership with Chivas Regal, we are inspiring social entrepreneurs and those seeking positive change from around the world to pursue their ambitions and realize their potential. We do not need entries from NGOs or any non-profit organizations; we are looking at businesses and enterprises that are profit oriented that can provide solutions to social problems. At least anybody with an idea on this perspective must have attained the age of 25, and his business must not exceed the turnover of $1.5 million
“A new breed of entrepreneur is emerging in Nigeria; one that uses business ideas to succeed while making a positive impact on the lives of others. Chivas Regal launched The Venture to offer significant resources to help drive and support the social entrepreneurship movement worldwide and in Nigeria. Out the fifteen applicants that would be selected, the top three participants will pitch their business plans at a final session to a panel of industry experts chaired by Audu Maikori, after which the winner would represent Nigeria.
Maikori said “I was a judge at the first edition and now I am the chief justice of this edition. Chivas and I share the same values, the belief that businesses must have a purpose beyond profit. It is, therefore, an absolute honor to be back again as a judge, to find like-minded individuals who are not only successful within their rights but sharing their success with their communities. This is profit with purpose” he added.
