Founder and CEO of Pickmeup Technologies, Michael Okaredje has recently been endorsed as an Exceptional Talent in Digital Technology under the UK Government’s Global Talent scheme.
The serial entrepreneur was recognized owing to his contribution to the development of Nigeria’s technology ecosystem and his likely expansion footprint in the United Kingdom’s digital economy.
Pickmeup Technologies is an indigenous mobility startup headquartered in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria which was founded to combat the current ride-hailing challenges faced by urban & rural users across the country.
This move is a step by the United Kingdom government to attract the world’s most ingenious and brilliant tech talent into its country, all in the hope of strengthening their state-of-the-art skill and innovation to keep up the UK’s stand as a leading force in the world’s digital economy.
The Pickmeup founder has bagged a Global Talent Visa with the Exceptional Talent endorsement, and this has a pathway to UK citizenship for the founder.
Speaking on the endorsement, Michael said, “I am thrilled with this endorsement and recognition, and most importantly, the opportunity to positively impact the digital economy of the United Kingdom and my home country of Nigeria”.
Michael has more than 16 years of experience in Nigeria’s IT solution space. He founded companies including Smart Networks, Onos Computers and Hequip Resources before establishing Pickmeup.
Michael hails from Warri in Delta State with a background in computer science and has built a long-standing career in Technology as well as the Oil & Gas sector.
Presently, he sits on the board of one of the most successful constructions and energy companies in the South-South region of Nigeria.

However, his decision to venture into the startup world was born out of a desire to address the lack of ride-hailing services in Delta State and the sizeable un-serviced market in Nigeria and Africa at large.
The Pickmeup App automatically detects users’ current location when prompted and they can request to be picked up from that location.
Pickmeup connects users to the closest available driver. Users can also type an address or drag the pin to a different location and request to be picked up from that point.
Following the British Government’s endorsement, Michael is set to launch Pickmeup Technologies in UK cities.
