Uber recently launched its low cost option, uberX as a reliable, safe and flexible substitute to metropolitan transportation in Lagos.

Uber is an app-based taxi and transportation network company that connects drivers with riders. It operates in several cities all over the world, with its headquarters in San Francisco, California.

The app is already available on Android, Blackberry 7 and iPhone mobile devices.

To book an Uber ride, users would have to register for Uber on its website or download the free application on the iPhone, Blackberry and Android mobile devices and follow the instructions.

Once on app or website, the rider sees the driver’s profile which include photo, name, ratings and the registration plate. This offers them all the information they need to ensure a secure and safe ride.

Uber drives have a GPS tracking system that are used to see where the driver is on the map, thus, making pickup more efficient than other alternative means of transportation as riders can also access the GPS-enabled map during the course of the ride and share it with a third party such as friends, family or partners.

Uber is a totally cashless system, where an Uber rider’s fare is charged automatically and electronically to their debit or credit card, ensuring that all payments are traceable and protecting both drivers and riders.

Besides, uberX rides are typically Kia Cerato, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord or Hyundai Elantra.

Speaking on the launch of the uberX service in Nigeria, General Manager, Uber Lagos, Ebi Atawodi noted that the individuals are already changing the way they connect within the towns and get around, and Uber is delighted to be part of this transformation, adding that Nigerians should have the right to make choices on how they travel and uberX is already offering a superlative value for getting around Lagos securely and safely.

Uber network is currently available in 6 continents, across 51 countries and in over 277 cities.

Its introduction in the Nigerian market has established a positive influence in the job market as potential drivers are able to get employment with flexible schedules and earnings.

Besides, Uber is also available in Lagos for Nigerian riders to use the Uber application when they travel to other cities where Uber application operates.

Uber’s objective is to facilitate the highest quality, reliable and safest transportation options with the fastest response time and at multiple price points.

Atawodi maintained that Uber aims to change how individuals connect with their communities and to bring convenience, reliability and opportunity to transport systems.

“To ensure that Uber riders receive the highest quality rides and reliability, all partner drivers have to have a drivers licence and commercial insurance before they are allowed to drive on the Uber system. Furthermore, all our drivers are vetted by the Uber team, making Uber the safest way to get around,” added the Atawodi.
