United Bank For Africa (UBA) Plc, has collaborated with POS partners all over Africa to introduce mobile Point of Sale (mPOS) terminals.

A Mobile Point of Sale (mPOS) terminal is a dedicated wireless device, which is portable and extremely secure, almost the size of a Blackberry Curve Phone and executes the tasks of an electronic point of sale terminal (POSint-of-sale terminal) or cash register. It works just like the POS used in collecting cash in stores and business outlets and comes at a low cost.

It also enables small businesses to easily analyze and track sales and trends in their business, since its retailer’s system captures all sales instantly and automatically. This improves transparency and accountability in sales.

For companies and firms who have agents in the fields collecting cash on their behalf, using mPOS is considered the most secure way for a delivery system.

Speaking on the initiative, Deputy Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, UBA Africa, Kennedy Uzoka, said that mPOS is part of UBA’s several e-banking innovations, and that it has introduced other initiatives in the mPOS project, for example allowing international card on POS terminals.

He also noted that the POS terminals are Dynamic Currency Conversion enabled, hence, both its customers and non-customers will be able to access the transaction value of their home country or cards currency using foreign payment cards on the POS, adding that this will help in personal account reconciliation and tracking transactions.

Several stores and money collecting outlets which have started using the new UBA mPOS, have found it to be a decent policy that improves sales and outspreads their customers base. Active traders are already incorporating mobile POS in their existing point-of-sale environment to improve their retail and payment experience.

Following is large customer base, UBA is dedicated to building a strong and secure e-Banking platform that will support its worldwide operations, by making strategic partnerships.

Last year UBA introduced some bill payments such Cable TV subscription on its POS terminals in chosen areas, airtime top up and utility bills payment.
