Twitter Blue goes Global, Legacy Verified Badges to be removed on April 1st

Twitter users from next will begin losing ‘legacy’ verified marks from their accounts, as the microblogging platform gradually moves toward an only paid subscribers model.

This removal will start taking effect from Saturday, April 1, 2023 according to the Elon Musk owned company. Musk had described the verified status policy programme as “corrupt” when he took over the reigns.

The billionaire had back tracked on some changes he initially planned after take over, however the removal of the verified mark status remains his top priority.

The Twitter Blue subscription model is a major offering  which Musk is rolling out with $8 monthly and according to Musk, thie new model will promote a better way to improve the service.

Musk also admitted that the platform’s bot challenge would be taken care of by more paying subscribers. Paying subscribers will now enjoy more priority in searches and replies, fight against spam and scams.  In addition, they will be able to edit their tweets and obtain half of the ads.

Twitter revaels that many journalists and public figures are among the users with verification without subscription.  Until the billionaire’s take over, Twitter confirms the authenticity of tweets from these users, making the platform an authentic news source.

Musk hasn’t hidden his disdain towards verified users of the platform who majory are journalists. Sometime in March, the billionaire had set [email protected] as an auto-responder to journalists following a period of ignoring their queries.
