A number of design updates for Gmail are being rolled out by Google, including the Material You style that was shown earlier this year.
The updated email layout has a sidebar that lets users switch between Chat, Mail, Spaces, and Meet, the four Google services.
The option to return to the previous Gmail design is currently available to users. Later this year, Gmail is reportedly intending to make more modifications to the email and communication platform.
All users are now receiving an updated design, which incorporates the platform’s newly integrated look that was first revealed in January
A sidebar to the left of it’s interface in the new design makes it simple for users to transition between Chat, Mail, Spaces, and Meet.
The notification will show up in Gmail’s bottom left corner. The side panel of options on it can now be manually displayed or hidden thanks to the new design.
From the Chat tab, users will have access to individual or group chat messages. Google outlines the steps to follow to obtain access as follows: “Click Open in a pop-up at the top of any chat or next to the chat message in the side panel to start the chat in a little pop-up window at the bottom of your screen. When you switch to other tabs, such Mail or Spaces, the window remains visible.”
Users of Gmail can access the new view by enabling Chat in it and putting Chat on the left-hand panel, according to Google’s help page.
By selecting Settings > Quick Settings > Return to the default view > New Window > Reload, users can even choose to disable the new view.
Users will still see the new appearance even if they don’t have Chat enabled, although by default it will only be available in a Gmail-only view.
The Verge said that additional platform updates, which may come later this year, are anticipated for Gmail users who use tablets.
According to the rumor, Google also plans to improve Gmail’s emoji support and add more accessibility features.
