SystemSpecs recently announced the winners of the 2020 edition of its Children’s Day Essay Competition.
The aim of the essay competition is to design opportunities for kids between the ages of 9 to 16 such that they can share creative and innovative ideas that can drive the accomplishments of technology-driven Nigeria which would seal the position of Nigeria once again as the giant of Africa.
Themed “Nigeria of my Dream: Making it Happen with Technology”, a 1000 word essay was required of the junior category while 1500 for the senior level.
Expectations from the essay are to see how Nigeria can transition from its present state to becoming a hub of technology and outstanding innovation in the globe.
Within two weeks, over 2000 submissions were received from more than 500 private and government secondary schools across Nigeria.
In the junior category, Onuoha-Okoro N. David, an 11- year old from St Anthony Grammar School (Private) located in Esure, Ijebu Imushin, Ogun state emerged as the winner, while for the senior category, 15-year old Kalu Derrick Ugochukwu from Fosla Academy located in Karshi, Abuja emerged.
In the junior category, 10-yea -old Toluwalase Aremu from Blooming Lights Montessori School, Lagos and Akorede Otufowora, a12-year old kid from Corona Secondary School, Agbara, in Ogun state emerged first and second runners-up respectively.
While the senior category saw the emergence of 14-year old Aisha Folashade Adebayo from Aflon Digital Academy, Abuja and Shoniran Toluwase Oluwasemilore, also 14-year old from Baptist Academy, Obanikoro located in Lagos as first and second runners-up respectively
In both categories the overall winners received a laptop and headphone each.
Tablet and headphone to the first runners-up while the second runners-up got a tablet each.
Akor Akpenyi, CSR programme administrator, SystemSpecs affirmed the company’s commitment in partnering with stakeholders to push its corporate social responsibility to advance the technological capacity of Nigerians.

Akpenyi reiterated the firm’s commitment to actively collaborate with relevant stakeholders in its corporate social responsibility goal of advancing capacity development for Nigeria.
Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata (CFA), Tech Journalist and advocate who spoke on behalf of the judges said the judges expressed their delight at the quality of the essays received.
“The entries gave a soothing assurance that despite the mounting odds, there is hope on the horizon, especially through these young ones.
On behalf of other distinguished members of the panel of judges, I celebrate and congratulate all who sent in entries and encourage them to keep championing causes that would help to reposition Nigeria for good.”
