The Solana Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the decentralization, acceptance, and security of the Solana network, recently announced that the Solana blockchain is the first Layer 1 blockchain to incorporate artificial intelligence via a ChatGPT plugin built by Solana Labs.
Furthermore, the Solana Foundation has established an AI accelerator program for university students and a strategic funding program to drive AI usage and incorporation into Solana.
The ChatGPT plugin for Solana, the first for a Layer 1 blockchain, is now available for download from GitHub.
This Solana Labs integration demonstrates how AI can simplify grasping Solana data and protocols and surface data on Solana’s computing infrastructure and DeFi projects.
The plugin can purchase NFTs, transfer tokens, analyze transactions, interpret public account data, and locate NFT collections based on their floor price.
Anatoly Yakovenko, the co-founder of Solana and CEO of Solana Labs, stated that every developer creating consumer-oriented apps should consider how their app will be dealt with via an AI model because this is a new paradigm for teaching computers what to do.
He also suggested that artificial intelligence will make Solana more usable and understandable.
Solana’s core qualities – rapid throughput, near-zero costs, and ease of usage – enable AI models to interact on the network in an effortless and effective way. Solana, while in its early phases, has become the epicenter of a surge of AI development in web3.
The Solana Foundation also announced today that the amount available in an AI-focused strategic grants program has been expanded from the previously announced $1 million to up to $10 million.
The awards program is designed to promote the ecosystem to investigate novel applications of machine learning models interacting with Solana protocols in safe and interpretable ways. The program for rolling funds has already attracted 50 applications.
The Solana Foundation has also launched a three-month accelerator program for university students, with a full cohort committed to experimenting with blockchain and artificial intelligence.
Hundreds of applications were received from projects and contributors, and the AI cohort has already culminated in an ask Solana U chatbot, that responds to queries regarding Solana development and assists in finding the appropriate Solana documentation, as well as Solana Audits AI, which is designed to improve security for Solana-based programs.
The Solana ecosystem is also making significant strides by embracing AI, with some projects already integrating AI technology:
- Hivemapper introduced AI Trainers in mid-April to help its AI translate real-world representation into high-quality digital maps complete with speed restrictions, cautionary symbols, and other street-related details. Contributors have started 5.7 million AI training reviews since then, with 500,000 items reaching consensus.
- Context-created AI-powered Solana chatbots and over 30 Solana ecosystem initiatives.
- The MarginFi team launched the Omni chatbot to answer questions about Solana and its various initiatives, including Meteora, Jupiter, Tensor, Mango Markets, Zeta, Kamino, Lido, Orca, and many more.
Both new and current initiatives are eligible to apply. Click here to apply.
