Jacqueline Rogers a South African entrepreneur has laid claims to own the first pregnancy app, My Pregnancy Journey on the continent.
According to Jacqueline who is also the founder, the app delivers required information on the challenges facing women and girls in Africa.
The mobile educational pregnancy app was launched in August 2019.
It allows its users to track their pregnancy journey weekly by making use of any of the 30 features available.
The app provides users with information on medication, nutrition, emergency birth.
Also, a section that features advice for HIV-positive mothers and adolescents is available
According to Jacqueline who has spent more than a decade in the pregnancy industry, the rate of fatal pregnancy outcomes is very common on the continent.
A lack of relevant local content required to help expecting mothers have also contributed to the scourge.
My Pregnancy Journey is set out to address the challenge, “We took all of our own photos, filmed our own videos and wrote all of our own content. Our app is authentic, beautiful, relevant, interactive, easy to use, addresses issues and educates,” Jacqueline said.
“Our aim is to empower all women with everything they need to know about pregnancy, health and parenting.
We want to inspire our moms in a positive way when raising the next generation, and potentially save some lives in the process.
Every mom and baby matters, and it’s important that all expectant mothers and families receive information that could possibly make their unique pregnancy journey a beautiful journey.” She stressed.
The app is available on Andriod and iOS for download and as the writing of this article, the app has received more than 2000 downloads.
Jacqueline plans a global target for women and she explains that the app would operate beyond the African continent, “With our app being tech-based we can target women globally, and this is our expansion plan, to not just focus on Africa, but the rest of the world too.
Our directory listing charges a small monthly fee to businesses listing their services on the app,” she added
