In a bid to ease payments and also curb fraudulent acts, the Lagos State government has created a platform called Lagos Online Assistant, LOLA.
This development will facilitate ease of payments and prevent physical meet with any government official.
This was made known by Lagos State Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Rabiu Olowo.
He further stated that for any person who does an early payment for the Lagos Land Use charge would get an exemption from making late payments due to accumulated fines provided the land use charge falls within the assigned period.
According to him, as quoted from the Land Use Charge Law 2020 A 39:
“Where a person who has received a Demand Notice of LUC fails to pay the amount within the period specified in the Notice, the initial amount payable will be increased by different percentages.
“Some of the penalties for late payment are: lateness between 45 calendar days and 75 calendar days will attract 10 percent penalty; between 75 calendar days and 105 calendar days attracts 20 percent penalty, while, between 105 calendar days and 135 calendar days attracts 50 percent penalty.”
According to him, the LOLA platform was birthed in accordance with Lagos state administrations agenda on ease of doing business
“We understand the busy nature of our residents and property owners. As such, we decided to make the payment of Land Use Charge more convenient for everyone, whereby with WhatsApp message, a payment for LUC can be effected with absolute ease.”
Olowo said anyone having challenges in making payment for Land Use Charge can also engage online with the platform.
The Commissioner mentioned Remita among other payment options that can be used for the Land Use Charge.
