In a development that is viewed as a positive one, Lagos State will commence clinical trials of Chloroquine on the COVID-19 cases recorded in the State, within one week from now.
This was disclosed by the Lagos State Commissioner of Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, while briefing journalists.
This is, as a result of the National Food And Drugs Administration, NAFDAC, approving the drug for clinical trials, since March 20, 2020.
Professor Abayomi stated noted, the clinical trials were coming at the most appropriate time, as the number of cases in the State, which now stands at, One Thousand And Sixty Seven, (1.667), recorded cases and currently treating One Thousand, One Hundred And Eighty-Six, (1,186), cases, had been on the rise in recent times.
He, however, admitted challenges that may be faced in carrying out the clinical trials and assured that these will be surmounted.
“To put together a clinical trial, is a very difficult thing; there are people that specialize in clinical research.
We have to perform the clinical trial, in such a way that, we would be able to get a very clear result, out of it and it won’t have any bias”, Professor Abayomi assured.
