Rebecca Enonchong Reappointed as Afrilabs Chair, New Members also on Board

AfriLabs appoints new board at 2019 annual gathering

Last month during its 2019 annual gathering, Afrilabs announced the appointment of new members into its board.

Held on Wednesday, October 27, 2019, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Afrilabs members had elected the new board members during the annual general meeting.

Rebecca Enonchong was re-elected unopposed as AfrilLab’s board’s chair. She is the chairperson of tech hub ActivSpaces in Cameroon.

Other key appointments include:

  • Moataz Helmy (The District, Egypt) as Secretary
  • Kudzai M Mubaiwa (iZone Hub, Zimbabwe) Treasurer
  • Fatoumata Niang Niox (Jokkolabs, Senegal) Francophone representative

Also elected are the new board members:

  • Daniel Chinagozi (Innovation Growth Hub, Nigeria)
  • Linda Kwamboka (iBiz Africa Strathmore University, Kenya)
  • Nekesa Were (iHub, Kenya)

The annual gathering also saw the launch of new initiatives:

AfriLabs Capacity Building Programme

A two three year capacity development initiative for hubs on the African continent. The programme is backed up by €2-million from the French development agency.

EdTech Hub

This is a research project that aims to build edtech start-ups in developing countries on the continent.

This would be achieved in partnership with the University of Cambridge, Injini, e-Learning Africa, the Overseas Development Institute and other partner institutes.

Catalyst

In partnership with the African Business Angels Network (ABAN), Catalyst is bringing its investment solution to African startups.

Association of network hubs and businesses from Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana also signed a memorandum of understanding to foster the integration of an innovative ecosystem from African hubs.

Anna Ekeledo, Executive Director of Afrilabs had said that the goal of Afrilabs is to gather stakeholders of the tech ecosystem to discuss the best ways of advancing technological innovation and entrepreneurship on the African continent.
