Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, the Hon. Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Umar Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), and other major stakeholders in Nigeria’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector are set to participate in the 2020 virtual Nigeria Internet Governance Forum (vNIGF).
The annual event in its 9th edition is holding virtually this year owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, is scheduled for September 23-24, 2020 around the theme “Achieving Inclusive Digital Economic Development in the Post-COVID19 Era.”
Mr. Istifanus Musa, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, will chair the vNIGF 2020 event.
According to the organisers, the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the critical importance of digital technologies in nurturing an inclusive national development which has thus compelled the thematic focus of the virtual conference, which will see the gathering of Nigeria Internet Governance Forum Multi-stakeholder Advisory Group (NIGF-MAG), the body of organisers of the event to discuss the progress of Nigeria’s Internet ecosystem.
For vNIGF 2020, the theme shows how the focus of the NIGF-MAG, from policy communities and business shift from making a resilient Internet for societal sustainability to getting to know the effect and impact of COVID-19 on both individual and business lives as regards Nigerian women and youth.
With the main event holding on Thursday, September 24, 2020 where Dr. Pantami will deliver a keynote address, the virtual conference will be preceded by the Youth Internet Governance Forum (YIGF) and Women IGF (WIGF) on September 23, 2020.
Other eminent speakers have also been confirmed to grace the vNIGF 2020 and they will be participating at igh-level panel discussions on the thematic focus of “2020 to 2030 Digital Economy Strategy.”
The speakers include, Ms Funke Opeke, Founder and Chief Executive Officer; Anriette Esterhuysen, Chair of the Global IGF MAG; Mrs. Mary Uduma, Coordinator, West Africa IGF; Prof. Adenike Osofisan of University of Ibadan and Dr. Nnenna Ifeanyi-Ajufo of Swansea University.
Others include a digital policy expert at Google, Mrs. Titi Akinsanmi; President and Chief Executive Officer, High Tech Centre for Nigerian Women and Youths, Dr. Wunmi Hassan; Coordinator, YouthIGF-NG, Uffa Modey, among others.
The organisers implore Members of the public from the private sector, government, civil society organisations and inter-governmental organisations, academia as well as Internet end-users are encouraged to register and attend the event live on the NIGF event website and across its social media platforms, @NigeriaIGF.

The Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy (FMoCDE), NCC, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA), Internet Society Nigeria Chapter (ISOC NG), DigitalSENSE Africa Media (DSA), in partnership with other local Internet stakeholders make up the NIGF-MAG.
