Nigerian government received a request from the Nigerian Internet Group (NIG), to lower the cost of internet access. They believe that this act would increase the Distribution area of internet users.
NIG is also requesting not to restrict broadband frequencies, so the monopoly could not be established.
Bayo Banjo, the president of NIG, explained what factors are slowing down the rate of internet penetration in Nigeria. While speaking at a news conference in Lagos he said that cost, inaccessibility, speed and devices are the main issues.
He suggested to Nigerian government to subsidize internet access, as he believes it would boost internet penetration and improve difficulties of unemployment in Nigeria.
Banjo also talked about the challenges to improve Nigeria`s cyberspace security from hackers.
He believes that it is just a matter of time when hackers will appear in Nigeria and now is the time to prevent it.
