The EVC/CEO of Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Professor Umar Garba Danbatta, stated that, as the NIMC 2007 Act has released the National Identification Number Regulations 2017, which provides that, a person must provide his/her National Identity Number, (NIN), in order to register a telephone SIM card, the NCC, in collaboration with all stakeholders, have set in motion, mechanisms for compliance.
Danbatta stated this, in his goodwill message at the 3rd Annual Conference of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, (GOCOP), which took place at Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, on Friday, October 4, 2019.
The goodwill message was read on his behalf, by Omoniyi Ibietan, Head Online Media and Special Publication, Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Abuja, who represented him at the event.
The theme of the 3rd Annual Conference of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, (GOCOP), is; “Economy, Security And National Development: The way Forward”.
“Permit me to, quickly, take you through a few things that the NCC, as the country’s independent telecom regulatory authority, has been doing, towards engendering security of lives and property, for economic development, in our country. This will be discussed under the sub-theme: ‘NCC, SIM Registration, Security and National Development’”, he earlier stated, in his goodwill message.
“I therefore, would like to use this opportunity, to encourage Nigerians, you and I, who want to acquire new SIM cards, for one reason or the other, to ensure that they obtain a National Identity Number, first”, Danbatta advised.
Danbatta concluded his goodwill message to the 3rd Annual Conference of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, by assuring Nigerian that, the NCC, in its renowned effective regulatory character, remains consistent in its commitment to using telecoms to support the current tripartite agenda of the Federal Government, which are, to improve the economy, enhance of lives and property and to fight corruption, in our society.
