NBM of Africa worldwide recently launched its maiden south-south regional mathematics competition.
NBM of Africa is a non-governmental organization with a mission to encourage educational excellence among students.
The first round of the competition was held in Aladumo international schools, GRA, Port Harcourt. It had good representation from both public and private schools.
In a statement made by the public relations officer of NBM, Mr. Oluwatosin Dixon, he mentioned that the idea of the competition was to encourage students to develop a deep interest in learning mathematics as a subject.
He went further to state that the competition would be conducted in 4 other states aside Rivers state — In Abia, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states.
For a winner to emerge, three top winners from each state will be represented and an overall regional winner will emerge.
Prior to the start of the competition, invitations were given to various public and private schools in Rivers state.
At the end of the first round, a Certificate of award was presented to the students who participated.
However, some students were eliminated after the first round and there were a few students that made it to the second round.
The first, second, and third positions at the state level will be given trophies, certificate awards, and reward cash prizes of N100,000, N70,000, and N50,000 respectively.
