For some time now, Microsoft has been trying to level the playing field, when it comes to cloud experiences with its competitors, (Google cloud, Amazon AWS).
However, with this latest news, coming from Microsoft, the competition to offer organisations best experience, in times of cloud, just got better.
Redmond-based tech giant, Microsoft, in partnership with OpenAI, has announced the launching of the fifth most powerful supercomputer in the world which is set to be the bedrock of future AI models.
According to the report, the fifth most powerful, supercomputer in the world that will be hosted, in the Azure cloud and it is set, to teach the next generation of artificial intelligence models.
The partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI, was solidified, sometimes last year and a lot of work has been going on, since then, which is driven, to ensure that, Microsoft Azure hosts bigger artificial intelligence, (general), models.
“This is about being able to do a hundred exciting things in natural language processing at once and a hundred exciting things in computer vision, and when you start to see combinations of these perceptual domains, you’re going to have new applications that are hard to even imagine right”, stated Kevin Scott, Microsoft Chief Technical Officer.
One unique feature of the supercomputer is that, it has a single system that houses, over 285,000 CPU cores, 10,000 GPUs and 400Gbps, of network connectivity, for every GPU server on board.
“We are seeing that, large-scale systems, are an important component, in training more powerful models”, stated Sam Altman, CEO at OpenAI, while speaking further, on the development.
Both parties, (Microsoft and OpenAI), stand to gain a lot, from this partnership. While Microsoft will be able to attract more clients and provide stiffer competition, when it comes to cloud experiences, OpenAI, will focus on, using this, to build the next generation of new AI technologies.
