“This is a laudable venture, which speaks to the 8th pillar of our agenda to ensure regulatory excellence and operational efficiency”. That was the description given by stressed Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, while delivering his speech at the virtual launching of the book titled ‘Nigerian Telecommunications Law and Regulation.
The Telecom Law book, co-authored by Quasim Odunmbaku of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC and Rotimi Akapo, Partner and Head, Telecommunications, Media and Technology Practice Group · Advocaat Law Practice, was unveiled virtually today, February 25, 2021.

The event was attended by stakeholders in the telecom ecosystem, including the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare, who was the immediate past Executive Commissioner, Stakeholders Engagement of the NCC, Adeleke Adewolu, Executive Commissioner, Stakeholders Engagement of the NCC, who represented the EVC/CEO of NCC, Prof. Garba Umar Danbatta, Josephine Amuwa, the Director of Legal Services, NCC, who was represented by Jerry Ugwu, Deputy Director, Legal Services, NCC, Engr. Gbenga Adebayo, Chairman of ALTON, Ikechukwu Nnamani, President of ATCON, Wale Goodluck, Head of Sub-Saharan Africa Operations, Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA), representatives of the telecom service providers, such as MTN and Airtel, members of the media, etc.
On his part, Ayuli Jemide, Chairman, NBA Section Of Business Law, commended the authors of the Law book for their effort. “This is a huge contribution to the jurisprudence landscape in Nigeria”, Jemide noted.

Josephine Amuwa, the Director of Legal Services, NCC, who was represented by Jerry Ugwu, Deputy Director, Legal Services, NCC, noted that the book is coming out at a time when the ICT sector had rescued Nigeria from recession.
The Telecom Law book was reviewed by Dr. Mohammed Saleh-Yusuf of the NCC, who at the end of the review, encouraged the authors to critically examine the extant laws and recommend the reviews of those laws, in subsequent editions of the book.
Unveiling the book, the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare, commended the authors of the book for a job well done. “This is a major contribution to the body of works to the telecom sector”, he noted.

Engr. Gbenga Adebayo, Chairman of ALTON, launched the book by purchasing 10 copies of the book for N500,00 on behalf of his Association.
The Telecom Law book, “Nigerian Telecommunications Law and Regulation”, has 18 chapters and a little over 600 pages.
