Jise, Nigeria’s first food-only delivery platform has secured $100,000 in angel funding from investors in Nigeria and Europe. The platform has also announced that its food service app is now LIVE.
In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, food and groceries demand saw a spike globally. This development has led consumers to demand seamless food delivery service in Nigeria, thus Jise has leveraged the opportunity to offer a food delivery platform that provides swift and cost-friendly delivery services in Nigeria starting with Lagos.
Led by 4 co-founders including Marvelous Gbenro as CEO, Tokurah Majid as VP Growth & Operations, Ibukun Olasupo as VP Customer Engagement and Jeremy Osazuwa Agbonze VP Technology, the food-only delivery platform has similar services to Deliveroo in Europe or Doordash in the US with the aim of delivering meals within 25 minutes.
Jise was founded owing to the shortcomings and challenges caused by delivery partners offering multi-focused services, thus resulting in delayed food deliveries.
This failure to keep up with prompt deliveries continues to threaten the brand integrity of most Nigerian restaurants.
Jise, therefore, has built a solution in the form of a shared logistics platform that allows restaurants to seamlessly make meal deliveries the fastest way by leveraging clusters of independent delivery personnel while also allowing restaurants growth through a connected marketplace (integrated solution) – JISE.
The food-only delivery platform aims to be Nigeria’s game-changer in the food delivery business by offering an effective platform that makes food delivery and ordering possible while handling takeout and delivery from Nigeria’s best restaurants at cheap prices to its consumers.
Commencing its operation officially today, Jise has secured $100,000 angel investment from notable investors including Backroom Capital (Nigeria), Winston Capital (Ireland) and also a few angel investors including Jonny Enagwolor, Co-Founder Treepz Inc.
Speaking on Jise the fundraising, Leonard Lynch investor at Winston Capital said:
“At Winston Capital, we are always looking for the best teams to invest in and at Jise, we see it as a great opportunity to invest in a great team.
We are delighted to continue to support the start-up ecosystem in Nigeria with our second investment on the continent.
The Jise team led by Marvelous is building the Just Eat or Doordash of Nigeria and we are excited to be part of their journey.”
Marvelous Gbeenro, CEO and Co-Founder of Jise, having spent over 3 years working for Techsopht, a platform that provides web-related services to clients’ businesses across various countries, has led fast-growing, solution-oriented startup.
He studied in NIIT where he is also met Jeremy Osazuwa Agbonze, his first Co-Founder who also doubles as the lead engineering for the startup as VP, Technology.
Majid Tokurah who is the Co-Founder and VP of Growth and Operations has over 10 years of experience in the Logistics and Technology sector, 4 out of those 10 years was spent in WeMove in the same capacity he presently holds.
Ibukun Olasupo who is the only female co-Founder on the Jise team has had experiences with some of Nigeria’s top technology startups while handling their customer engagements.
Some of her former engagements include Farmcrowdy, IrokoTV, Treepz and Konga. Presently at Jise, she serves as the Co-Founder and VP of Customer Engagement.
These 4 co-founders promise to improve the livelihood of its runners, merchants and users by designing fast, flawless and cheap delivery services through its integrated solution.
The food-only delivery platform has gone live by signing over 40 restaurant menus on their platform first within the Lekki Phase 1 axis of Lagos.
Jise hopes to offer meals within 25 minutes to customers in this axis then gradually expand their community-based model starting with bicycle runners across Lagos in preparation for the holiday season.
