The coronavirus saga did not only shake the whole world but also created a new line of business opportunities by forcing people to be more technologically sensitized.
The sit-at-home protocols adopted by governments across the world to curtail the spread of the virus killed off many businesses.
It also caused a massive surge in unemployment but the only sector that enjoyed to a large extent are the more technologically inclined businesses that did not rely on the physical workplace to function.
People shifted focus and went online to communicate with their friends, family, and business associates.
Closed business deals kept growing through video calling and communications as people slowly adjusted to the new normal.
Platforms that really enjoyed massive usage during this period were video calling apps of which one of them is Google Meet.
In April, a report came out that Google Meet will be ending its free service by September 30, 2020, but according to a blog post, the ending date is now moved till next year.
Google released a statement that users on Google Meet Free can continue to use the free mode video call for 24 hours until March 31, 2021.
The free video mode was initially scheduled to end today (September 30, 2020) but after close meeting deliberation by the giant tech company, they have decided to change the policy and extend the free service till next year.
According to Samir Pradhan, Google Meet Group Product Manager:
“The festive period is fast approaching with less travel and important functions such as family reunions, PTA meetings and weddings and video hosting will take center stage, we want to keep helping people stay in constant touch hence the extension of the free version of Google Meet through March 31, 2021.”
Only Gmail account users can use this freemium service.
