There’s a new strategy to provide Kenyan commuters with frictionless, and tech-enabled safe commutation that will ease their travel.
This new service came through the courtesy of SWVL Kenya, an app built to offer timely schedules and reliability of service.
SWVL will ensure commuters have a chance to book and pay for their upcountry travel instead of having to do it physically.
When loading up, users get to utilise the mobile money transfer service M-Pesa, an in-app cash wallet placed to assist commuters to abide by laid out COVID-19 guidelines such as paperless transactions adherence, to maintain an open window policy that will decrease the risk of contracting the virus among them
To fully actualize this new product, the firm partnered exclusively with Matatu SACCOs and operators that ply long-distance routes across the country.
The commuters get a chance to book and pay for their upcountry trips to over 12 destinations in Kenya such as Naivasha, Nakuru, Molo, Eldoret, Narok, Bomet, Kericho, Kisii, Kisumu, Nyeri, Nanyuki, and Machakos
In addition, the General Manager for SWVL in Kenya, Dip Patel, reaffirmed the favorable impacts of the platform:
“We are constantly innovating for the Kenyan commuter, to provide them with safe, and tech-enabled commutes that make it easier for them to travel.
We are looking to make it easier for Kenyans to make their journeys upcountry, especially as we approach the festive season next month.
This desire is what prompted us to partner with the Matatu SACCOs who already provides services, and this helps in streamlining the process of filling up their vehicles by giving them a digital platform”
Patel also informed users on how rides will operate, saying it will be based on fixed timings and fixed prices, and that these services will roll out steadily in the coming weeks.
Long-distance travel operators who would like to operate on the app can continue with onboarding as well.
