The South Africa Virtual 2020 program has officially opened for early-stage entrepreneurs in the country to apply.
The programme is led by one of the world’s largest pre-seed startup accelerators, The Founder Institute, an institution that backs entrepreneurs in their business development through support from startup experts.
Founded in 2009, the Founder Institute aims to support pre-seed entrepreneurs through the creation of local startup experts networks. These experts provide knowledge to budding entrepreneurs.
The program teaches entrepreneurs the foundations of raising capital funding, team recruitment, generating traction, moving from employee to entrepreneur and how to connect with potential investors.
From 2009, the Founder Institute has reportedly helped their alumni gather more than $950 million, with the institute itself valued at $30 billion.
Over 4500 entrepreneurs from up to 90 countries have benefited from the institute program and have created technology-inclined enterprises around the world.
Details of the program
The program aims to equip early-stage startups in South Africa and provide entrepreneurs with the necessary skill set to scale their current business.
More than 40 experts from the entrepreneurship and business development space will offer mentorship for the participants selected.
Every week entrepreneurs take part in a 3-hour session to pitch their venture to the mentors, in return, they get feedback.
The feedback session affords the entrepreneurs an opportunity to continue building their venture during the week while still undergoing the challenges of building a working business.
The program has two deadlines, for the early admission, the deadline is Saturday, November 7, 2020, while the final admission deadline is Thursday, January 31, 2021.
Applicants must take note that the program will be virtual in compliance with COVID-19 safety regulations and applicants will undergo an ‘Entrepreneur DNA assessment’, to evaluate participant’s eligibility in the accelerator program.
