Coderina is bringing FIRST® LEGO® League, a sensational and entertaining universal robotics program that ignites an interest for science, technology, and discovery in kids ages 9 – 16.
Coderina is a sovereign not-for-profit foundation that engages in the education sector, public and private companies, Non-Governmental Organisations, and government agencies, to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education.
The session is scheduled to hold on Saturday, March 14, 2015 in Lagos and also on Saturday, March 21, 2015 in Abuja.
Speaking on the forthcoming session, Director, Coderina/FLL Nigeria, Olajide Ajayi recapped that technologies provide chances to elevate innovation, stimulate development and empowers organizations and personalities to intermingle more industriously within the universal economy, adding that recognizing the opportunities entail the requisite to use technology as the backbone and as an extra platform for supporting capabilities and productive changes.
The Director said that identifying resources by creativity and co-joining such efforts with resourcefulness on the part of government, educators on a mission to establish capacity for our future resourceful leaders, has become even more indispensable.
“Come March 14 and 21, 2015 at the University of Lagos and Abuja respectively, 280 students from public and private schools, after-school and neighborhood groups around the North-Central and South-West will participate in the inaugural FLL regional championships. The tournaments are a culmination of activities carried out on the World Class challenge (the theme for the 2014/2015 season). In the 2014 FLL World Class Challenge, 265,000 children from 80 countries will re-design how we gather knowledge and skills in the 21st century. Teams will teach adults about the ways that kids need and want to learn,” Mr. Ajayi said.
According to him, FLL program is an educational collaboration between LEGO® and the FIRST® Group, comprising three components i.e. Core Value, Robot Game and Project.
The Project component involves teams research of real-life matters related to this year’s theme, create or proffer a new and innovative solution.
The Robot Game deals with building, designing and programming robots to accomplish a set of assignments on a thematic table-top playing surface.
While the Core Values component of the program involves the FLL Core Values that are the cornerstone of the FLL program. Since they are the vital elements that differentiate FLL from other programs of its kind, embracing the Core values enables participants learn that sociable competition and joint gain are not separate objectives.
