FlexClub a South African car subscription marketplace in collaboration with Avis, a SA car rental company has launched the ‘Drive Now, Buy Later’ model.

This new subscription will enable South Africans to buy cars in the country and from Mexico.

The automotive tech startup has designed a platform that will enable the citizens of South Africa to either buy or rent vehicles at a specified subscription fee.

The amount will be inclusive of both maintenance and insurance.

According to FlexClub, its subscribed members depending on their driving behavior will obtain cars that have their purchase price reduced over time.

In a statement released on the partnership, the CEO of Avis SA, Ramasela Ganda, said that the collaboration with the tech startup will address the challenge of transportation in South Africa.

“The Drive Now, Buy Later model is an innovative offering that comes at a time where customers are in need of flexible mobility solutions that cater to their ever-evolving needs.

Avis South Africa is proud to be the first to partner with FlexClub on this subscription offering, as we Try Harder to continuously delight our customers”.

Ramasela further explained that the partnership joins the Avis expertise which will enable its members to do a seamless car purchase, while the tech startup aims to onboard 700,000 customers in the country for personal cars in the market yearly.

Tinashe Ruzane, CEO and co-founder of FlexClub while comparing Amazon’s flexibility and convenience to the new Drive Now, Buy Later model said:

“FlexClub is pioneering the most flexible way to get a car. We’re creating a superior digital experience for customers that value their freedom. Imagine if getting your next car delivered

FlexClub is pioneering the most flexible way to get a car. We’re creating a superior digital experience for customers that value their freedom.”

Ruzane noted that if South Africans could get their next car delivered to their doorstep by the way of Amazon’s shopping experience, then with the FlexClub model, South Africans could get the same treatment.

The FlexClub model

In 2019, FlexClub partnered with Ube to allow the SA startup to offer commercial car subscriptions to SA and Mexican Uber drivers.

Thus the development of the Drive Now, Buy Later model resulted from this successful partnership.

The partners included already existing car rental organizations and fleet providers using the marketplace offered by FlexClub for its car subscription to members in the South African marketplace.
