Filecoin Orbit Community hosted its first workshop in Akwa Ibom on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at Start Innovation Hub.
The one-day event is a convergence of blockchain experts and enthusiasts gathered to discuss and learn about various subjects in the blockchain ecosystem which includes Introduction to IPFS/Filecoin, Building Dapps on Filecoin, Becoming a FIL Storage Provider and Opportunities in the Blockchain ecosystem
Opening the floor, Collins Emem-Abasi, a member of the Filecoin Orbit Community welcomed the participants and speakers to the workshop, while stating the benefits of participation.
Delivering the first talk at the workshop, Emmanuel Tope, Technical Writer at Ethereum Nigeria discussed, “Demystifying Filecoin”, he started with the basics of what blockchain is, the benefits of decentralization, FIL and Protocol Lab as well as the advantages of decentralized storage.
Emmanuel highlighted the uniqueness of Filecoin which include, an active community, open-source code, an open market, and verifiable storage.
Wisdom Ekpot, another speaker at the workshop, spoke about, “OrbitDB – Distributed P2P Database on IPFS”. He is a Sofware Engineer at Move Work Forward with expertise in Serverless Computing, Amazon Web Services and Node.js.
Emmanuel John, another Software Engineer from Gigmile Technologies discussed “Smart Contract for Beginners”. Ending the talk in the workshop, John Mfon, CEO of Middey Technologies, discussed the “Internet and ICT”.
Prizes were given out to participants who took part in the quiz competition during the workshop.
Enoch Mbaebie, Convener of Nigeria’s Filecoin Community, rounded up the workshop with words of appreciation to the speakers for their expert knowledge and participants for their time.
The Filecoin Orbit Community held its Nigeria’s maiden edition workshop in Lagos and has gone ahead to other states in the country.
Enoch hinted that there would be another Lagos roundup conference towards the end of 2022.
